Topping-out ceremony for Mainz state parliament
The topping-out ceremony for the new ensemble of buildings at Mainz state parliament takes place on 28 August. a|sh architekten and the team of project manager Martin Hof are implementing a particularly thoughtful rehabilitation concept. Linus Hofrichter, who as one of the managing directors at a|sh will give a speech on the architectural concept and success of the project, says that the new structure will be integrated into the historical ensemble as an independent, modern layer of time. The architectural firm won the architectural competition in 2014 with this concept. Completion is planned for 2020.
The new state parliament will be energy-efficient, barrier-free and fire-protected while complying with the state of the art in terms of technology and functionality. The special charm of the historic Deutschhaus will be preserved for the citizens. That was particularly important to a|sh. The important building of democracy will be provided with a modern core with a new, horseshoe-shaped plenary hall. The new extension with restaurant, meeting and event rooms stands for a contemporary parliament that is open to visitors. Timeless and discrete – it embodies the baroque, light red sandstone façade in a modern form with bright, warm-toned West Palatinate sandstone.
